Gliders place 6th at IWBF Women's World Wheelchair Basketball Championships

THE Australian women's wheelchair basketball team, the Gliders, have finished in sixth place at 2014 IWBF Women's World Wheelchair Basketball Championships last week.

The Gliders, featuring Whalan's Sarah Stewart and Rooty Hill's Kylie Gauci, were eliminated following a 77-70 loss in overtime to Great Britain in their final game of the tournament.

Western Australia's Amber Merritt posted a game-high 32 points on a remarkable 16-of-20 shooting performance from the field.

Stewart and Gauci were two of Australia's leading players throughout the tournament and finished among the top contributors in most of their team's games.

Stewart finished the championships with personal stats of 51 points (6.4 per game), 13 rebounds, 12 assists, three steals and one blocked shot, while Gauci had 40 points (five per game), 17 rebounds, 34 assists and five steals.
