Body of driver in severe car crash unable to be identified

A car accident overnight was so catastrophic the only driver involved is unindentifiable.

The driver of a black Holden Commodore crashed into a concrete pole on the Pacific Highway near Lake Munmorah in the Central Coast around midnight on Tuesday night.

The crash caused the vehicle to burst into flames, inflicting damage on the driver so severe their age and gender could not be determined visually.

"Unfortunately the injuries and the fire subsequent to the crash have interfered with our ability to do a visual identifcation," said Chief Inspector Rod Peet from the Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command

The body was located near the car.

After checking the vehicle registration and further investigations, police believe the driver is a 24-year-old man from Bonnells Bay.
