The smell of spice, the sound of sizzling meat and the sight of dozens of coloured lanterns greeted hungry Brisbane residents on Thursday night, as the city embraced its first Night Noodle Markets at South Bank.
Presented by Brisbane Times as part of Good Food Month, the markets run until July 27 in the Cultural Forecourt.
Queues for the succulent morsels on offer began even before a trio of Buddhist monks offered their blessing for good fortune to launch the first night of festivities.
Good Food Month festival director Joanna Savill said she wasn’t surprised to see such enthusiasm.
“Australians love the open air, we love Asian-style street food, we like to socialise, hang out with our friends, do something a little bit different,” she said.
“The Night Noodle Markets really ticks all of those boxes for people, for all ages and stages.”
