Blacktown council chatter: Celebrate what local government does for people

ENJOY a game of putt putt golf with your hot soup and take home some free plants as part of Local Government Week celebrations next week.

Blacktown Council will hold events in the Blacktown Village Green next Tuesday, August 5, and on August 7 at Dawson Mall in Mount Druitt, from 9am to 2pm.

Activities include a pop-up outdoor library, road safety and mobile recycling displays, worm farming and composting demonstrations, putt putt golf, free health checks, gym coupon giveaways, graffiti street artists, backyard chickens, vertical gardens and more.

Make some new furry friends at the animal holding facility's education display.

Enjoy a free soup made from organic produce grown in the council's community gardens.

"Local Government Week is a great opportunity for residents to learn more about the full scope of local services and facilities that councils provide," mayor Len Robinson said.

"Local Government is closer to the people than any other levels of public service. At council, we understand that we have an important responsibility when it comes to serving to the diverse needs of our community."

There will be 2500 plants available to the first 1250 residents at each location.

Nursery staff will be there to help residents on their plant selection and offer advice on what plants are most appropriate for their gardens.
