ATTENTION gardeners, now is the time to roll-up your sleeves.

Entries for one of the city's most popular events, the Blacktown City Garden Competition are now open.

It attracted 60 individual entries and 12 in the community, school and commercial categories last year.

Whether you're a novice or a seasoned green thumb, there's a category for everyone.

"The competition is an opportunity for households, schools, community groups and businesses to showcase the pride and joy they have for their gardens. I encourage all residents to show-off their gardening skills," mayor Len Robinson said.

Gardeners can enter one or more categories, including front and backyard, new garden (under three-years-old), individual unit/townhouse or villa, commercial/industrial/government, community garden, school or higher education garden, Australian plants, park/reserve managed by a committee, edible and waterwise gardens.

Preliminary judging is in September when entries will be judged on overall appearance among others.

Entries close August 29. Winners announced on October 24. Details: 9839 6000 or blacktown.nsw.gov.au.
