Indigenous choir

The Mount Druitt Indigenous Choir recently returned from a 4500-kilometre Freedom Tour which travelled to Central Queensland in July.

It celebrated the freedoms won by Aboriginal activists like Charlie Perkins.

The choir performed in Toowoomba, Cherbourg, Gladstone, Woorabinda, Rockhampton, Brisbane and Dreamworld.

"People were crying in the audience as they heard the children sing in the Sydney Dharug language and asking how they could also start choirs singing in their own local dialects," choir director David Armstrong said.

The choir consists of young people aged 3-15 years from Mount Druitt and Blacktown.
