A man has been remanded in custody after he was arrested and charged with murder at Sydney International Airport on Friday over the public shooting death in Sydney's inner west.
25-year-old Brad Dillon, a father of two from Abbotsford, was shot five times in the chest at a public car park on Lords Road, Leichhardt at 5.30pm on Monday as shocked witnesses looked on.
He managed to stagger to the gutter, where he collapsed and died shortly after despite paramedics and passers-by trying to revive him.
Witnesses told police they saw two men run from the scene after the shots were fired. Police now allege one of these men was 23-year-old Diego Carbone, of Russell Lea, who was arrested while trying to board a flight to Thailand on Friday morning.
In a brief appearance at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday, Carbone wore the same black and white track suit he was arrested in. He remained impassive as he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.
Police, who established Strike Force Ester to investigate Mr Dillon's death, say they are still working on the case and expect to arrest others soon over the killing.
Carbone will appear at Central Local Court on September 2.
