One woman is dead and another is being treated in hospital after reports of a stabbing at Taree, on the NSW mid-north coast.
Emergency services were called to a home in Stevenson Street just before 7pm, where they found a 39-year-old woman with a stab wound to her abdomen.
 
Police from Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command then forced their way inside the home. They found the body of a 49-year-old woman inside.
A 53-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is in police custody.
The 39-year-old was taken to Manning Base Hospital where she is reportedly in a stable condition, according to a NSW Police statement.
