A Sydney man accused of throwing a glass at US entertainer Redfoo at a hotel in Double Bay has pleaded not guilty to assault and reckless wounding, his solicitor declaring the matter was "a trial by media".
Arian Berisha, 21, is accused of approaching Redfoo at the Golden Sheaf Hotel just after 12.30am on August 28 and throwing a glass at him, in what police say was an unprovoked attack.
Redfoo, a judge on the Channel Seven reality music competition The X-Factor, was left bleeding from a small cut to his head, sparking a social media storm.
Mr Berisha sat nervously in Waverley Local Court on Wednesday as his solicitor, Brian Wrench, entered not guilty pleas to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and reckless wounding, charges that carry significant jail terms.
Mr Wrench said he had been forced to rely on Twitter for information about the incident because police had not provided him with a statement of facts.
"We're not aware of the case against Mr Berisha, we've had to rely on Twitter, so we're seeking a statement of more than 140 characters if possible," he said.
"Unfortunately it's been a bit of a trial by media."
The police prosecutor, Sydney Sergeant Amin Assaad, said seven witnesses would be called by the prosecution.
Redfoo, 38, whose real name is Stefan Kendall Gordy, has previously told reporters that his crew were celebrating the launch of a new song and were about to leave the hotel to go to an after-party when he was struck with a glass.
"The first thing I do is look where it came from and I see, you know, a dude kind of like ducking and dodging and trying to run away, so the chase is on," he told a radio station.
"But then he is being detained, and I'm being held back," Redfoo told the radio station.
"The guy, it was just crazy. He did blow the kiss ... like a taunting thing, you know. That's just crazy to me. That's too far."
Mr Berisha's bail was continued and he left the court with his solicitor
The matter will return to court next month.
