On Tuesday, Darius Boyd returned to the Brisbane Broncos and made peace with the media. The NRL star's media interviews are infamous for their monosyballic answers and hit a low point in 2009 which forced his club at the time, the St George Illawarra Dragons, to apologise.
NFL star Marshawn Lynch of the Seattle Seahawks has deep pockets, but not so deep that the running back can continue his almost non-existent relationship with the media. He has at least progressed to the monosyballic stage.
The member of the Seahawks' Super Bowl winning team was fined $US50,000 ($58,000) for not talking to the media during last season. The fine was suspended, but last week, when Lynch calmly walked away from reporters after the Seahawks' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL responded by fining him a further $US50,000 and demanded payment for last year's offences, despite Lynch later giving a phone interview with NFL.com.
According to the NFL's media policy, "star players, or other players with unusually heavy media demands, must be available to the media that regularly cover their teams at least once during the practice week in addition to their required post-game media availability".
On Sunday, after the Seahawks defeated the Arizona Cardinals, Lynch fulfilled his media obligations in the dressing room. In all, he was asked 22 questions by journalists, 12 were answered with "yeah", there was one "no", two "don't knows", two "maybes" and one "no juice". Two other answers were inaudible while the only question he answered at any length related to his charitable foundation.

But clearly Lynch does not need help paying the fine. Only last week Lynch made the day of a Seahawks fan, Jason Lynch (no relation), by returning his lost wallet that he dropped at a petrol station.
