She has hidden behind wigs, worn veils, and even faced a wall during most of her recent public performances, but Australian songstress Sia has finally shown her face.
The Adelaide-born Elastic Heart singer was photographed at the 23rd Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards screening party in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Sia, 39, attended the event wearing a patterned gold ensemble with her hair swept well off her face into a large topknot.
While her song Opportunity, which she wrote for the remake of the musical Annie starring Quvenzhane Wallis, was nominated for a Golden Globe, it was not one of the five Best Original Song nominees at this year's Oscars. As a result, Sia was free to sit back and watch the awards at the A-list bash, which boasted a guest list including Miley Cyrus and Heidi Klum.
Sia openly showed her face while promoting her first five albums, but she took a different approach when promoting her latest - and most successful (she was nominated for four Grammys this year) - release, 1000 Forms of Fear.
The singer/songwriter - who is responsible for hits including Rihanna's Diamonds and David Guetta's Titanium - decided to hide her face to escape the pitfalls of celebrity.
"If anyone besides famous people knew what it was like to be a famous person, they would never want to be famous," Sia wrote for BIllboard in October 2013.
"Imagine the stereotypical highly opinionated, completely uninformed mother-in-law character and apply it to every teenager with a computer in the entire world. Then add in all bored people, as well as people whose job it is to report on celebrities. Then, picture that creature, that force, criticising you for an hour straight once a day, every day, day after day."
Instead of being known by her face, Sia came to be known by her bob hairstyle she wears while performing. The bob has also been worn by those accompanying her at public performances, most notably 12-year-old Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler.
With her seventh album, This Is Acting, expected to be released this year, it is unclear whether wigless Sia is here to stay.
