Newly re-elected Premier Mike Baird has declared he is "humbled" by his solid election win on Saturday night and called on Labor and other parties in the upper house to respect his mandate to partially privatise the NSW electricity network.
At a Sunday morning news conference at Manly beach, Mr Baird described being re-elected as "a privilege and an opportunity".
He said Prime Minister Tony Abbott had called him to congratulate him on the win.
The Coalition looks to have suffered a nine per cent swing against it but will easily form government with an expected 53 seats in the 93-seat parliament.
The Greens are set to win up to four lower house seats, while Labor looks to have picked up 14 seats to bring it to about 34 seats in the parliament.
In the upper house, the government looks set to win nine seats, which means it should be able to rely on the two votes of Fred Nile's Christian Democratic Party to pass legislation for its power privatisation.
Mr Baird said he was confident he would be able to pass the legislation but had not discussed deals with Reverend Nile.
"I haven't, because I was going to the people of NSW with our plans," he said.
"I wanted them to give us our mandate and having done that it's obviously the next part of the process".
Mr Baird called on the upper house and opposition leader Luke Foley to support his privatisation plan in the parliament.
"We were open with what we wanted to do, a mandate has been provided," he said.
"I say to not only the upper house but to the Labor party, they have the chance to support what the people of this state have done and that is given us the mandate to get on with it".
However, Mr Baird would not be drawn on when legislation might come before parliament for the electricity transaction.
Mr Baird said it was "very humbling" to be elected Premier for the first time after being voted into the job by his colleagues last year after the resignation of Barry O'Farrell.
"All of us in politics, the concept of being the leader of the party and receiving the endorsement from the people of your state is almost unbelievable," he said
"It does feel a little different but it's also excitement about the opportunity. I know what we can do over the next four years. We're going to work incredibly hard for the people of NSW".
Mr Baird said it was inevitable that the government was going to lose seats given the scale of its 2011 victory.
He said it was a "tough campaign" against Mr Foley but added that he believed there were "things that we can potentially work on together". He nominated the issue of "cleaning up" the culture of political donations as an example.
"There's no doubt there will be combat in Macquarie Street, that's what you get," he said.
"But at the same time you have an opportunity at all times to put the state first."
Asked if voters could expect a new era of cooperation, Mr Baird laughed and said: "That might be a bit much."
Mr Baird confirmed he would undertake a cabinet reshuffle and would be working on it "over the next few days".
There has been speculation that transport minister Gladys Berejiklian could move to Treasury - a portfolio that will be crucial to overseeing the electricity privatisation.
