A video from the 1980s that pays homage to the thrilling sensation of driving over the "Towradgi Hump" has set the internet all aflutter.
The video shows variety entertainers The Four Kinsmen explaining the simple delights of the rollercoaster-esque section of road and includes a tribute song and a section shot using a purpose-crafted "humpcam".
The video, originally recorded for WIN's Kids News program, is among hours of footage unearthed by Perth's Wayne Waples, who wants to make a documentary on the Kinsmen.
Mr Waples is trying to raise $15,000 for the project and has released several video snippets to promote his gofundme campaign.
But none of the clips have attracted anything like the attention generated by The Towradgi Hump, which has attracted more than 38,000 views.
"It must be doing so well because locals love The Hump," said Mr Waples, who has never personally experienced the stomach-dropping sensation created by the road's unusual gradient.
"Next time I come to Wollongong to do filming, I'll certainly be doing The Hump."
Many viewers have shared personal Hump-related stories, including a pregnant woman who repeatedly drove over it in an attempt to induce labour.
A viewer, Jeannette Arnold, recalled passing over the famed section of road with a friend's brother at the wheel.
"He sped up one side of the hump and we hit the top of the hump at such a high speed that we actually 'flew' through the air and landed at the base of the hump on the other side," she wrote.
"Adding to the excitement is that this was before seat belts were compulsory and we actually hit our heads on the roof of the car - it was awesome."
