The start of spring attracted the biggest crowd in St Marys in recent years on Saturday.
Thousands flocked to Queen Street for the St Marys Spring Festival.
A late afternoon shower the day before didn’t dampen spirits or preparations.
‘‘We couldn’t have wished the day to have been any better,’’ St Marys Development Committee president Tony Biddulph told the Star on Monday.
‘‘I’ve never seen so many people in St Marys. It was so packed you couldn’t move.’’
He estimated the crowd to be well above the 25,000 attendance in recent years.
The highlight of the day for him was seeing the Bennett Wagon lead the parade.
Coachmans Park was overflowing with teenagers for headline act Reece Mastin, who spent several hours afterwards signing autographs.
‘The park was chockers, I’ve never seen so many people there in all my life,’’ Mr Biddulph said.
A goat farmer was named St Marys citizen of the year.
