Shirley Maclaine is proving that you're never too old to change your ways.
The 78-year-old veteran actress and Downton Abbey star has ditched sweet treats and taken up exercise in a bid to lose weight for the first time in her life.
The Oscar winner has given up her favourite foods and turned to snacking on fruit as she battles to slim down - and MacLaine admits taking her dog on hikes has made all the difference in her quest to shed the pounds.
"I'm on a diet for the first time in my life. All my attention is focused on my tummy, which is too big. I could eat sweets all day but I've made a commitment to myself to lose weight, so that means cutting out chocolate and eating more fruit," Mclaine has told Britain's Woman & Home magazine.
"I hate exercise as much as anyone but when I'm hiking with my dog Terry it's not so bad. I'll do an hour in the morning, then feel like I've earned a nice lunch."
Maclaine famously admitted to sleeping with three men in a day once - but then, as the older sister of Warren Beatty, a wild streak is perhaps par for the course.
She last year told Oprah that her fast life had largely been down to the political climate of the 60s and 70s: "I had many love affairs – and a lot of awful lovers. I wasn’t into ‘sexscapades’ but I did try it once. I had three people in one day".
In the same interview, Maclaine called Jack Nicholson an "authentically dangerous" man - it's all a far cry from hikes with the dog and bids to slim down as she fast approaches octogenarianism.
