Chief steward Ray Murrihy is canvassing options for moving next Saturday's Anzac Day races from Randwick after concerns about condition of the course proper. Premier jockey James McDonald described the track as "like the Kensington track" after the infamous meeting last November, while other riders called it "safe but very chopped up" and "in need of a rest".
"It was like the Kenso was when we had all those problems," premier jockey James McDonald said. "A couple of mine scrambled and it was definitely was effecting the chances of horses."
After three meetings in 12 days, Murrihy said the track was showing signs of wear and tear. He said the stewards report noted a number of runners that didn't handle the surface.
He wants to have best available racing surface for next Saturday and the weather forecast for the week for rain every day would not help in recovery.
"It is no good waiting to see what happens with the weather. We need to make a decision early in the week and I have spoken to Lindsay [Murphy], Col [Tuck] and Nevesh [Ramdhani] about it already," Murrihy said.
"There are wear patches on the track and the concern would be will we be racing here on Saturday with a week of rain. I would hate to get to Saturday and have to call it off when there are other options.
"We can move the rail right up to acceptance time but we can't move the meeting, so we will be talking about it on Monday. I believe that Rosehill is out of play and we are racing at Canterbury on Wednesday.
"It is a matter of looking at all options."
Randwick track manager Nevesh Ramdhani had planned to move the rail out to 11 metres from eight metres for the All Aged Stakes.
"We can try to get them out of a new patch of track and I think it would be right," Ramdhani said.
