Nick Kyrgios received a code violation for slamming his racquet, which flew into the crowd, but it didn't stop him from continuing his love-affair with the grass courts of Wimbledon.
The Australian booked a spot in the final 16 after a four set 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory against Canadian No.7 seed Milos Raonic in typically flamboyant fashion, exacting revenge on the man who ended his dream run at the tournament last year.
The 20-year-old came into the match under enormous scrutiny following his on-court antics in the first two rounds, but he put aside the drama to set up a fourth round clash against Frenchman Richard Gasquet, who Kyrgios bundled out of Wimbledon in the second round last year.
It was a typical Kyrgios performance. Brave, brilliant, bold and bewildering all in one. But between the show-boating, the shouting and the racquet slamming was a performance to savour.
"I like to watch entertaining tennis," Kyrgios said.
"As you say, Dustin Brown, Gaël Monfils, those guys have a lot of fun out there. At the same time, a guy like Federer, I love watching guys like that as well. They're unbelievable tennis players.
"I'm the biggest believer in [not] saying nothing out there or being a robot. I feel you should express yourself. You know, it's a sport."
Kyrgios surrendered the first set after capitulating on his own serve at 6-5, double faulting three times to hand the Canadian the first set.
The second set, however, had it all. Kyrgios picked up a warning after smashing a racquet into the grass that bounced into the crowd, and and even tried distracting his opponent during a rally by swinging his arms around before a shot.
The Australian also produced arguably the biggest forehand of the tournament, but it was his passing shot at deuce at 4-4 that brought the crowd to their feet.
He finally broke the Canadian at 5-5, pulling off four consecutive aces on his serve to level the match at a set-all.
At the end of the set the umpire asked Kyrgios to turn his official Wimbledon headband, which had a strip of green and purple, inside-out because it didn't comply with the tournament's all-white rule.
The third set went to a tie-break, in which Kyrgios won six consecutive points to take it 7-3.
Kyrgios then managed to break the Canadian to take a 5-3 lead in the fourth set, holding serve to clinch a memorable victory.
"I've just been doing a lot more work off the court," Kyrgios said about his development since last year.
"I've been putting in a lot of hours, not so much on the court, but in the gym, running, you know, just some things. I've cleaned up my diet a little bit, as well. I think I'm in better shape than I was last year. I'm just a lot more confident with my movement. I'm trusting it. Not always trying to hit the winner, trying to construct some points as well, which is good."
