Nicole Kidman has spoken candidly about the death of her father, saying she is "still recovering".
The 48-year-old actress opened up about her family's loss during an interview at her home in Nashville, Tennessee, with Vogue US.
"You've caught me at a time when I'm still recovering and in grief," she said.
"There are times you go, 'Gosh, I wish I could just go and hide in a hole and never come out'."
Kidman's father Antony died suddenly in September last year.
The Sydney clinical psychologist passed away following a suspected heart attack while on a trip to Singapore to visit his younger daughter, Antonia. He was 75 years old.
Kidman and her husband, country singer and former The Voice Australia judge Keith Urban, travelled with their two daughters from the US to Sydney for her father's funeral, which was held at St Francis Xavier Church in Lavender Bay on Sydney's north shore.
At the time the couple thanked their fans for their support, saying the family was "heartbroken".
"We would just like to thank everyone for their love and prayers over these past couple of weeks," they wrote in a Facebook post.
"We are all heartbroken but knowing we are in the hearts and thoughts of others is so comforting. Sending love, Nic and Keith xx."
Speaking to Vogue, Kidman said her daughters had helped her to cope with her grief.
"I have a four-year-old and a six-year-old, and just hearing their laugh … it's life in its most powerful form," she said.
Kidman has two daughters with Urban, Sunday, 6, and Faith, 4.
She also has two adult children, Isabella and Connor, from her 11-year marriage to actor Tom Cruise.
In her Vogue interview, which appears in the magazine's August issue, Kidman expressed regret at not having met Urban, 47, when she was younger.
"I wish I could have met him much earlier and had way more children with him," she said.
"But I didn't. I mean, if I could have had two more children with him, that would have been just glorious. But as Keith says, 'The wanting mind, Nicole. Shut it down.'"
Kidman and Urban married in 2006, five years after her divorce from Cruise.
During an interview with The Kyle and Jackie O Show in October last year, Kidman said she and Urban would love to have a third child, but that it was unlikely to happen.
"I hope every month I am pregnant but I never am," she said.
"I would be jumping for joy, but it won't happen; I'm 47."
However, Kidman revealed that her grandmother had her last child at the age of 49.
"So, you never know."
The Kidman-Urban clan is based in the US, where Urban recently wrapped season 14 of American Idol.
They will relocate to Britain in the northern hemisphere autumn, when Kidman is booked to star in Photograph 51 on the West End.
