300 jobs with Wet'n'Wild

WORK on the long-awaited $115 million Wet'n'Wild Sydney water park in Prospect began last month and its grand opening is scheduled for summer next year.

Village Roadshow Limited will build the park.

A spokesman said the project should attract about 900,000 visitors per year and create more than 300 full-time jobs during its construction and operation.

He said it will also generate more than $500 million in economic activity for the local economy.

NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell formally commenced construction of the park with a soil-breaking ceremony a week ago on the 25-hectare site at Reservoir Road.

He also unveiled several world-first designs that will be features of the park.

"Wet'n'Wild Sydney is a world-class attraction that will cement Sydney's place on the global theme park map," Mr O'Farrell said.

"Today it's delivering jobs in building and construction, and next year jobs in the entertainment and leisure sector."

Village Roadshow Theme Parks chief executive officer Tim Fisher said Wet'n'Wild is the only global water park brand and Wet'n'Wild Sydney is its flagship.

"Sydney is getting the best as we've got the industry's best designers creating attractions many of which have never been seen in Australia before.

"At the heart of the action will be Australia's best beach with a surf wave that will put the beach within reach for everybody."
