DISABILITY support groups in the Nepean region believe Australia's first national disability insurance scheme will change their clients' lives dramatically.
The National Disability Insurance scheme will provide all people with disabilities with a government-funded income.
Next year the federal and state governments will trial the scheme in several regions around Australia before gradually introducing it nationwide.
Federal Minister for Disability Reform, Jenny Macklin, Lindsay federal MP David Bradbury and Penrith state MP Stuart Ayres declared their bipartisan support for the scheme at Penrith's recent opening of the Nepean Disability Expo.
Disability Services Australia's chief executive, Mark Spurr, said national disability insurance was about giving people "a fair go".
"People with disabilities haven't had that," Mr Spurr said. "That's why we're 200 per cent behind the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
"I must also congratulate the NSW government; they've been really instrumental in this person-centred approach to disability services."
Northcott Disability Services family support worker Anna Breen said the approach "was about seeing the person, not the disability".
