Film maker invites fans to turn fantasy to reality

EFFORTS to film the story Journey of the Seeds, written by western Sydney writer Carol Baauw continue, with Presence Films operating a fans' website.

Journey of the Seeds is set in and around Penrith and the Blue Mountains, at some indeterminate time in the future.

The main character Toowyn is a road labourer working around western Sydney.

One day he is thrust into a parallel world where he encounters monsters, angels and royalty.

Toowyn's battles in this other world mirror the struggles in his own.

Presence Films chief executive David Steinhoff urged fans to help the story onto the screen by beginning a journey of their own.

"If you love supernatural, fantasy worlds, action and grand romance, then I would encourage fans to log on and register as members on the site," Mr Steinhoff said.

"Film is traditionally born of a script but today, graphic novels are the new authors of film."

He said fans communicating with the writers gave them a greater investment in the film.

"With this model we can invite fans and crowdsource costs; we could ask someone to subscribe for 99 cents," Mr Steinhoff said.

"If our fan base grew into 1000 it could then grow into hundreds of thousands, hungry for the film to be made."

He also said that although the story is set in western Sydney, it has a global dimension.

"There has been a catastrophe in the northern hemisphere, with refugees streaming into Australia from America, Europe and Asia," Mr Steinhoff.

"The world comes to western Sydney."
