BMX riders in great meet

ST MARYS' Penrith BMX Club had 60 entries at the state titles held at Southlake over the October long weekend.

Two riders returned as state champions. Nicole Docherty, 17, won the 17-25 ladies cruiser event and Jordan Lecher won the 16 boys without dropping a race.

Nicole also competed in the elite Ladies competition. She was second in the first final and third in the second final to place third overall.

The three-day event was restricted to two days of competition because of the the weather. Several riders faced huge race programs on the final day.

Other podium finishes included second for Declan Jaehne in the 11 boys, second for Todd McDonald in the 15 boys, second for Kristy Lee Martin in the 17 to 25 ladies, third to Ayden Boesel in the 15 to 16 boys cruiser, third to Shane Middlemass in the 30 to 34 cruiser and third to Kyle Jaehne in the 13 boys.

Penrith club had 17 finalists and six under-7s Sprocket rockets who competed for fun. The Sprockets riders Jesse Busuttil, Tyreak Cala, Layla Flanagan, Drazyk Holt and Rhys Mulholland rode like champions.

Special mention goes to Lachlan Boesel who put in the ride of the day to move from the semi to the final of the 13-14 cruiser. Lachlan was fifth in the final.

Cameron Denham, Brenton Lans, Bradley Shaylor and Lachlan Heiler all showed great improvement.
