Jaymes Diaz, one of the most memorable political candidates in recent years, is preparing to re-enter politics, as preselection candidate for the Liberal ticket for Blacktown council.
Party sources said that Mr Diaz will nominate for a preselection contest to be held next Sunday for the council.
Mr Diaz's sister, Jayneline "Brightly" Diaz, is also believed to be nominating.
The two Diazes will nominate alongside sitting councillor and family patriarch Jess whose grip over Liberal branches in north-western Sydney is legendary.
Cr Diaz controls four of seven branches in the Blacktown area, which will likely boost the family's chances in a vote largely conducted by delegates from local branches.
Mr Diaz's last tilt for public office, standing for the highly marginal seat of Greenway in the 2013 federal election was famously overshadowed after he was wrong footed in a memorable "stop the boats" interview in 2013.
Mr Diaz made reference to his party's six-point plan to stop asylum seeker arrivals, a major component of the party platform in an interview with Channel 10 journalist John Hill. But when quizzed aggressively and at length he was unable to remember five of the points.
He was seldom seen for the remainder of the federal election campaign.
Jaymes Diaz was installed as a candidate for the seat against the objections of the Liberal leadership, including then leader Tony Abbott.
Cr Jess Diaz has failed in two recent attempts to become mayor of the council, which have been foiled after he narrowly lost secret ballots.
Cr Diaz lost by one vote in a mayoral ballot last year after his former Liberal colleague Jacqueline Donaldson resigned from the party before the vote.
Cr Diaz branded Cr Donaldson a "disgrace" and a "Judas" after her change of vote handed the mayoralty to an ALP councillor, Stephen Bali.
Having two family members on council would likely boost any attempt by Cr Diaz to become Blacktown's mayor.
The election for Blacktown council, which is not being merged by the state government, will be held in September.
Jaymes Diaz was not contactable on Saturday and Jess Diaz did not immediately return a request for comment.
