KAYAKING isn't a sport usually associated with Bidwill but this could change now Olympic silver medallist Jessica Fox has visited Bidwill Public School.
A year out of school herself, the Leonay resident was a big hit.
Pupils have spent the year following the success of Olympians.
Ms Fox gave a motivational pep talk to promote the Premier's Public Speaking Challenge as part of her interactive presentation which involved the children at all levels.
She got the pupils on their feet with kayaking manoeuvres and answered their questions.
Pupils held her Olympic medal and received autographed cards as mementoes of her visit.
Ms Fox's manager is the brother of one of the teachers, whose class hosted the visit.
Ms Fox's warm, humble and informative manner made her a hit.
"She told them to work hard, follow their dreams and never give up," assistant principal Janet Gregory said.
Mrs Gregory taught Jessica and her younger sister Noemi at Leonay Public School.
"We all knew her mum and dad were exceptional in kayaking but they were wonderful parents in that they never pushed the daughters," she said.
"But I'm not surprised Jessica has turned into a personable young lady who is very humble, has a beautiful smile and draws others to her."
Mrs Gregory is confident the visited motivated aspiring stars.
"I'm sure it did, it's a very sporty school," she said.
"Jessica reinforced the message to make sure they do they best and made them feel they can do anything."
