A man has died and another man is seriously injured in hospital after their car crashed following a police pursuit in the NSW central west.
Both men were ejected from the car in the single vehicle crash in South Bathurst, near the intersection of Lloyds Road and Vale Road, police said
The car was being pursued by police moments before the driver lost control just after 1pm on Wednesday.
Both men, aged 35 and 33, were ejected from the Hyundai SUV, which is alleged to be stolen.
The older man suffered critical injuries and was taken to Bathurst Base Hospital, where he died on Wednesday afternoon.
The younger man remained in a stable condition in the same hospital, after he sustained head injuries in the crash.
A NSW Ambulance helicopter was called to the crash scene, with the chopper landing at Bathurst Base Hospital just after 2pm.
The Police helicopter, PolAir, also landed in Bathurst to assist with the investigation.
Police have launched a critical incident investigation into the crash, to examine what happened during and after the pursuit.
Officers from nearby Lachlan Local Area command will investigate "all circumstances surrounding the incident including the pursuit".
"That investigation will be subject to independent review," a police statement said.
A spokesman for NSW Police said while the majority of incidents to which police respond are managed effectively, the NSW Police Force acknowledges the actions of officers in the execution of their duty can, in some circumstances, result in death or serious injury.
"Incidents of this nature are subject to heightened levels of public interest and scrutiny. These incidents are deemed to be critical incidents by the NSW Police Force," the spokesman said.
The spokesman said NSW Police is committed to investigating critical incidents in a transparent manner.
