St Marys' Ron Massey Cup side crush Wentworthville Magpies 50-10 in top-of-the-table clash

The St Marys Ron Massey Cup team have run away with a 50-10 win over the Wentworthville Magpies at Ringrose Oval on Sunday afternoon.

Winger Maika Sivo scored his 15th try of the season with another hat-trick.

It’s his ninth try in the last three games.

Sivo said the Saints are a “good club” with “good people”.

“I’ve been enjoying it,” he said. “It’s been great to be out there with Geoff [Daniela], an experienced centre.

“I just put the ball over the line, all the hard work is done in the middle by the forwards.”

Between Sivo and Daniela, the pair have scored 21 tries, while fullback Mason Cerruto has the second most tries in the league with eight.

The Fijian flyer started the Saints off in the eighth minute in response to an early try to the Magpies.

Eventually leading 22-10 at half-time, quick play-the-balls helped the Saints roll through the Magpies with five second half tries.

Saints coach Brad Drew was impressed with the result.

“It was just a team effort with everyone doing their job,” he said.

“The coaching staff are scratching their heads, we don’t know who to give man of the match to. When you’re doing that, you know everyone is contributing and that’s the way it should be.”

Entering the weekend in a tie for first with the Magpies, Hills Bulls and Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles, it was a big win with the Bulls defeating the Sea Eagles 22-18 in the other top-of-the-table clash.

“Everyone knows how good a club Wenty are and to get a result like that, we’ll take it right now,” he said.

“It’s great result but it’s still early days and we won’t get carried away, we’ll keep working hard and enjoy it today while we can.”
