Spaniard Oriol Riera scored on his Western Sydney Wanderers debut as the club played out a 2-all draw with Australia under-23s on Tuesday.
Western Sydney hosted Josep Gombau’s men at Blacktown Football Park in what was a warm for Saturday night’s blockbuster friendly against Arsenal.
Riera, who was unveiled as the Wanderers’ marquee signing last Wednesday, quickly announced himself in front of a small crowd of supporters at Rooty Hill.
Fellow new boys Josh Risdon, Roly Bonevacia and Michael Thwaite also made their debuts.
Young striker Matthew Leece scored the red and black’s other goal.
Three Wanderers players were included in Gombau’s 24-man squad ahead of this month’s qualifiers for the AFC under-23 Championship China 2018.
Defender Johnathan Aspropotamitis and attackers Jaushua Sotirio and Lachlan Scott were named for the trip to Myanmar.
The side will take on Myanmar, Singapore and Brunei to claim a spot at next year’s tournament.
Western Sydney will now gear up for its match against English powerhouse Arsenal at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.
The match is expected to feature superstars including World Cup-winner Mesut Ozil, keeper Petr Cech and the Gunners’ record signing Alexandre Lacazette.
