Man shot dead by police at Central Station
A man has been shot dead by police following a "confrontation" with officers at Central Station in Sydney's CBD.
In a statement, NSW Police said officers were called to Eddy Avenue just before 6.45pm on Wednesday "following reports of an armed robbery".
Witnesses said a man armed with what appeared to be scissors confronted the owner of a florist shop at the station, causing bystanders to call police. Read more.

Man charged over alleged road rage attack in Merrylands
A man has been charged with numerous offences over an alleged road rage attack in Sydney's west on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old handed himself in to Merrylands Police Station on Wednesday afternoon following widespread coverage of the alleged incident, which was filmed by another driver and shared on social media.
Police allege two men in a Hyundai and two men in an Audi became involved in an altercation on Centenary Road in Merrylands following a traffic dispute. The footage shows two men approaching a stationary car with P-plates and gesticulating angrily at the driver. Read more.
UWS students drive innovation in Solar Car Project
A team of University of Western Sydney (WSU) students are driving the way in innovation.
The 22 member Solar Car Project team – including students from the fields of Engineering, Industrial Design and Visual Communications – are building a solar powered car to enter in the 2017 Bridgestone World Solar Car Challenge from October 8-15.
The students manage every aspect of the production and design of the vehicle, as well as sponsorships, marketing and the administrative elements of their involvement in the challenge. Read more.
ICAC finds former Botany Bay CFO, 11 others, acted corruptly
The former chief financial officer of a southern Sydney council and a number of colleagues acted corruptly after the CFO was involved in raising more than $5 million in bogus invoices and charging more than $600,000 in personal expenditure on a council credit card, the state corruption watchdog found.
Former Botany Bay CFO Gary Goodman and a host of other council employees party to the rampant spending were found to have acted corruptly, the Independent Commission Against Corruption found in its report into Botany Bay Council on Wednesday, following a public inquiry last year.
A total of 12 other people, mostly other council employees, and a construction businessman had corrupt findings made against them; 10 of whom the ICAC will recommend the Director of Public Prosecutions consider laying charges against. Read more.
Police investigate after body found in Kingsgrove carpark
Police are investigating after the body of a man was found in a carpark in Sydney's south west on Wednesday morning.
The man was discovered inside a van in a business park at Garema Circuit in Kingsgrove about 10.15am.

Windsor’s historic Thompson Square at centre of planning battle
Hawkesbury Council will prepare a plan of management for Thompson Square, which will be at odds with a similar plan created by Roads and Maritime Services.
Council staff noted in a report on the RMS’ Strategic Conservation Management Plan (SCMP) of Thompson Square, that there were some inconsistencies in the report.
At the July 11 meeting, Council voted to create its own Conservation Management Plan (CMP) and provide it to the RMS.
The vote also saw Council state it did not agree with the RMS’ SCMP, and would write to Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet and inform him of the ‘inconsistencies’ in the report. Read more.
Man charged for Kellyville Ridge stabbing
A man has been charged for a stabbing outside the Ettamogah Hotel that left another man in a serious condition.
The 31-year-old victim was stabbed in the lower back outside the Windsor Road pub just after 1am on Sunday, July 23.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition. Read more.
Fitzroy Hotel's official re-opening is on July 28
It’s been four long months, but the Fitzroy Hotel in Windsor launches its latest incarnation this Friday, July 28.
Owner Craig Thomson said it will open at 9am for the shiftworkers but the action will kick off from 4pm when lingerie waitresses start their shift, until 8pm.
Then from 9.30pm when the bistro closes there will be a big night on the turntable, with seven DJs spinning their wares until 3am. Read more.
Australian dollar tops US80¢ mark after dovish Fed statement, iron ore rally
The Australian dollar has topped US80¢ in the wake of a dovish policy statement from the US Federal Reserve.
The Aussie reached US80.14¢ at about 3pm New York time, or 5am Australian AEST. It was last up 0.7 per cent at US79.96¢. Read more.
Man charged over alleged Central Coast road rage attack
A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a woman in a road rage attack on the Central Coast on Monday.
The 41-year-old man attended Wyong Police Station on Wednesday morning where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The charge follows a police investigation into the alleged attack which was captured by a truck driver who was travelling on the Pacific Highway at Lake Munmorah just after midday on Monday. Read more.

Bevan French has been given the Parramatta Eels’ biggest job ahead of Friday night’s clash with the Brisbane Broncos.
The 21-year-old flyer will replace Clint Gutherson, one of the form players in the NRL, after he suffered a season-ending knee injury. French started the year at fullback but was pushed onto the wing after he returned from his own injury. Read more.

A-League hopefuls, including South Melbourne, could be waiting until 2018 until they learn FFA's criteria to enter the competition.
A-League chief Greg O'Rourke, who visited the ex-NSL powerhouse on Wednesday ahead of their FFA Cup tie, confirmed the sport's governing body was prioritising talks on the league's operating model with current clubs. As Toby Greene gets ready to face the music from coach Leon Cameron, a former teammate says the combative forward should not change the way he plays.
