Bishop’s message on same-sex marriage vote
The man in charge of Australia’s fifth largest Catholic Diocese has weighed into the debate about the same sex marriage postal vote.
In a pastoral letter published on the Catholic Outlook website last week, Parramatta Catholic Diocese Bishop Vincent Long Van Nguyen pleaded to parishioners to have “a deep sense of respect for all concerned, and for the opinion and decision that each person is free to make.”
Regardless of the survey outcome or any legislation that follows, the Bishop’s letter states that the church will continue to hold that marriage is a natural institution established by God to be a permanent union between a man and woman. Read more
Knife pulled in Sydney heist of $1100 Kanye West-designed sneakers
A high-end sneaker deal has gone awry for a young man who elected to conduct the transaction in a Sydney park.
The 22-year-old man had advertised a pair of black Adidas Yeezy sneakers for sale on the internet for $1100.
About 7.30pm on Monday, the seller met another male who said he wanted to buy the Kanye West-designed hi-tops in Johnson Park in Dulwich Hill. Read more
Man, 25, charged with murder of Lanell Latta at Avalon home
Police were called to the quiet street in Avalon on Sydney's northern beaches on Monday morning after neighbours heard a woman screaming.
They arrived at the Marine Parade home, owned by Australian supermodel Gemma Ward, to find the body of 50-year-old Lanell Latta at the property about 10.45am. Read more
Vending machines should cope with new $10 note says RBA
There should be no repeat of the new-look $5 note's vending machine issues when revamped $10 notes start appearing in circulation this week, the Reserve Bank says, but betting company Tabcorp has already flagged delays before its automated terminals can cope with the new currency

Parramatta pool plan sparks development fears
Plans for a new aquatic centre in Parramatta associated with the Western Sydney Stadium project have sparked fears of over development on 20 hectares of nearby parkland.
The redevelopment of Parramatta stadium will require demolition of the adjacent community pool, which closed at the end of March. Read more
Flanagan apologises for ref spray in bid to reduce $30,000 fine
Cronulla will attempt to have their $30,000 fine from the NRL reduced after coach Shane Flanagan apologised for his recent criticism of match officials.
Both the Sharks and Manly are due to submit their responses to the league by Tuesday afternoon, after Flanagan and Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett both blamed officials for their sides week-one departures from the finals.
Flanagan on Monday penned an 1100-word letter to fans on the Sharks' website apologising for the team's early exit, before he admitted he had erred in his treatment of referees. Read more

Sydney Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has described Cowboys enforcer Jason Taumalolo as the best forward in the NRL, but the tricolours share a belief he has some off-the-ball deficiencies they can exploit on Saturday night.
