More than $7200 was raised in one day to upgrade Mount Druitt Hospital’s children’s garden, on the back of community generosity.

Plumpton Marketplace’s Big Change for Small Change campaign asked shoppers to donate a gold coin entry fee on September 21, with all proceeds going to the hospital.

On Wednesday, the centre handed over a cheque for $7254 to the hospital’s general manager Sue-Anne Redmond.

Those funds will be used to re-concrete the garden’s entrance for better wheelchair access, to buy new chairs and clean up overgrown plants.

Thousands of people made their way to the centre on the day to support the campaign and take in a schedule of performances and skating and martial arts classes.

Plumpton Marketplace John Cooper thanked all who donated to the cause.

“We were overwhelmed by the community’s generosity and thank our volunteers and partners who came together to make a difference,” Mr Cooper said.

“As a result, the community has created big change for small change to benefit local children’s health services.”

Ms Redmond said the donation was “amazing” and praised the hard work of the centre and volunteers who made the fundraiser possible.

“We are enormously grateful for the support of Plumpton Marketplace for enabling this community event to take place to support Mount Druitt Hospital,” she said.

“[We] offer our deepest thanks to all within the entire community for digging deep to support our children’s ward.”
