It arrived in the inboxes of hundreds of journalists across the country early on Friday morning, and was greeted with laughter or bewildered blinking.
The Australian Medical Association's media team emblazoned their annual Christmas e-card with a naked family of four, wearing only leaves and Santa hats.
"Every year we send out an email like this, and it's a team effort to come up with the most eccentric ideas with the funniest pictures," AMA head of media relations John Flannery told Fairfax Media.
Mr Flannery was quick to defend the respectable nature of the AMA, the peak organisation for the nation's doctors, by pointing out the e-card was from the media team only.
"It's important for us to be light-hearted at Christmas time. We have a very busy team that deals with a lot of people about important stories all year, so we like to send something a bit oddball each year," Mr Flannery said.
The image was sourced online and the AMA media team tacked on a message reminding everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Christmas and holiday season, and to keep themselves nice.
The reminder harks back to their 2013 Christmas card, which was bright pink and starred a long warning of things not to do during the holiday season.
"Get the kids immunised. Don't fall off balconies. Avoid defenestration. Do not make a fool of yourself on Twitter or Facebook or other social media. Dance responsibly. Sing even more responsibly."
The 2012 card exhorted the journalists who received it to avoid medical tourism, caffeine energy drinks and not to rely on "Dr Google".
"We hope Santa brings you a single funder and a diabetes trial and some GP infrastructure and an electroni medical record and a whole stack of public hopistal beds – all in plain packaging of course!"
