There are fears a six-year-old boy has drowned in the Murray River while swimming with his friends as police set up a rescue effort to search for his body.
Police were called to a campsite on Gunbower Island in Koondrook, Victoria at around 2:30pm after reports the boy and six other children were stuck in a dangerous current.
Police said four of the children were able to get themselves out of the water, but three needed further assistance.
Two of children were saved, but no there has been no sign of the six-year-old boy.
A search is being conducted by NSW Police, Victoria Police, NSW SES, NSW Maritime, NSW Volunteer Rescue Association and individuals who witnessed the incident.
NSW Police divers will continue their search into the night.
