A US postman has inspired the imagination of a 12-year-old boy, delivering more than just mail.
Ron Lynch was on his postal route in Salt Lake City when he was approached by Matthew Flores, who asked if he had any junk mail to spare.
Mr Lynch learnt that advertisements and newspapers were the only sources of reading that Matthew had been able to access.
"So ... let's get this 12-year-old some books!"
The post spread quickly, igniting a global campaign to send young Matthew some more age-appropriate (and exciting) reading material.
In his post, which has now garnered more than 500 likes, Mr Lynch said, "[Matthew] is counting on me, so I'm counting on you!
"I was given many books as a child, and it's time to help someone else! Please share and let's get him tons of reading material! Most kids his age want electronics! It's great to see his desire, and you should have seen him beam when I said I could help."
Expecting only about 50 books to find their way to Matthew, Mr Lynch was shocked to learn that hundreds of books from across the world had begun arriving at the boy's home.
"They said, 'These books are for you,' " Matthew told Salt Lake City's Deseret News.
"I thought they were mistaken, but they were for me."
Matthew intends to share the books with other children as he works his way through them.
