The Hayne Plane has officially touched down in San Francisco, with Eels NRL convert Jarryd Hayne landing a spot on the 49ers 53-man squad for the upcoming NFL season.
Despite being completely unheard of in the US 12 months ago, Hayne has captured the hearts and minds of football fans in Australia and America alike.
The former Parramatta star's No.38 San Francisco 49ers jersey is currently the most popular selling shirt on the NFL's online store.
To put it in perspetive, more people want to buy his jersey than that of legendary New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
Brady is arguably the biggest star in the NFL — he's played consistently at the top level for 15 years, is reportedly worth $US 26.5 million a year and has won the Super Bowl four times.
Hayne is yet to play an official NFL game, but at least for the moment he can claim to be the most popular player in the league.
Hayne took to Twitter on Sunday to confirm that his gamble of switching from the NRL to the NFL had officially paid off.
His tweet read "IT ALWAYS WORKS OUT! I thank GOD for WHAT HE has done and going to do on this incredible journey!! I'm on the 53 MAN ROSTER FOR THE #49ers" and has since had 8.1k retweets and 13k favourites.
Hayne's three-year deal with the 49ers is worth $US 1.58 million, plus the potential to earn millions more in endorsements.
But a big pay day was by no means a guarantee for Hayne when he made the decision to walk away from a deal worth close to $1 million a season with the Parramatta Eels.
Since joining the 49ers in April, Hayne has been getting by on $600 a week, roughly the wage of an apprentice plumber, and driving around town in a second-hand Mazda.
But those days appear to be behind Hayne, after he became the star attraction of the NFL pre-season.
In four games, Hayne averaged more rushing yards than any player in the 32 franchises, and finished second in average punt return yardage.
Hayne will have the chance to make his official NFL debut when the 49ers play their season opener against the Minnesota Vikings at Levis Stadium in Monday Night Football next week.
The broadcast, on Tuesday Australian time, is set to smash the ratings record for a regular-season NFL game in Australia.
It's understood the record for any NFL match broadcast in Australia was on free to air when Channel Seven showed last year's Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, with 354,000 viewers tuning in on Seven and another 94,000 watching on ESPN.
The 49ers-Vikings game will be shown live on ESPN in Australia from 12.15pm AEST on Tuesday afternoon.
