If you’re wondering what your next home project should entail, consider investing better style into the bedroom.
The best place to start, is the bed. If you’ve always craved a timeless and sophisticated look, here are a few ideas.
The key is to keep everything simple and plain.
There are two gender neutral, basic colour palettes that you should consider:
- Neutrals: Taupe and white.
- Classics: Navy and white.
White, cream or linen is widely used as the base colour for bedding because it has a crisp edge.
Dimity Green, marketing and design manager of Legend Linen said a popular option is pairing a white sheet or quilt cover set with contrasting pillows in navy or taupe.
“When you have a linen quilt cover we would pair it with a white sheet set, keeping it on the neutral side and then creating a desirable and opulent look by using contrasting cushions or a statement cushion as the finishing touch,” she said.
Layering a bed can also play a key role. This can be done by changing the order of pillows.
“Layering is really important. For us it’s about using lots of layers from the European pillows through to standard pillows,” she said.
A classic layering technique involves staging two or three contrasting European pillows at the back to create more volume. In front of the European cushions there would usually be two basic standard pillows and a smaller cushion at the front.
The final aspect to consider is texture and design.
Elements like tailored edges can add a simple level of sophistication, while neutral coloured bedspreads in a stripe pattern or waffle weave are classic.
“We do beautifully tailored edges in quilts, such as flat piping or a beautiful rope cord,” Ms Green said.
